We have a stacked class for a small school. I'm really impressed the local talent we were able to grab. Can't wait to see those kids at Torero Stadium.

Congrats to the team. Two road wins in a one-week stretch is great to see. If we can win another road game or two and take care of business in a few home games against teams like Pepperdine, USF, Santa Clara, and Portland, we could find ourselves in the middle of the conference standings at the end of the year. The overall record still isn't pretty, but we have definitely seen a lot of improvement already this year. Keep it up Toreros!

T94 - I agree with your comments on progress. I'm really pleased to see that we are getting better in season.

More than that, even in the losses, this team is entertaining to watch. A few years ago we had to play a slow down game and try to grind out wins - it was ugly. This year, I really like how the team gets up and down the floor. Anderson & Dee are going to be very good and Miles is figuring out how to use his speed.

We do need an inside presence (too bad Gabriel messed up), but it looks like Kramer is starting to figure it out in the post. We need Simi to focus on nothing but rebounding and defense (he has played a little better of late).

There are some winnable games left. We have a stretch from 2/4-2/18 where we could potentially win 5 in a row (vs. Santa Clara, @ Pepperdine, vs. SF, vs. Portland, @ Cal St. Bakersfield).

Another road win last night and in convincing fashion. After two years of not getting any road wins to have two in the span of a week (and by 13 and 19 points). It does point to progress. I know the team and program aren't where many of us would like it to be but the fact is that we have a pretty young team who are starting to have stretches where they play pretty well. It helps when we tie a team record of 14 3 pointers in the game (live by the 3, die by the 3)

It is nice to see Ken Rancifer start to come out of his shell recently and really contribute (I credit Dogpatch's open letter).

We still need an inside presence and were out rebounded last night which isn't good. Time for Grier to use some of those open scholarships we have to find some new talent.

Obvious that there is a top tier in the conference and then everyone else but I like to think that we can find ourselves in the middle of the pack this year. Not expecting much on Saturday v Gonzaga but next weekend we have Pepperdine (home) and USF (road) that are winnable games.

I like the core of this team. I love the heart and never give up attitude.

LMU beat BYU last night on the road which was impressive (BYU doesn't lose much at home).

The baseball team should do very well this year. Kris Bryant leading the way with a very deep pitching staff.

This isn't a spam post...but anybody alive out there? If a team play a couple games and ZERO posts are made, do they really count? Shit, there was even a WIN in one of those games...and silence. Come on now. Thoughts on the season?

And baseball is coming! Anyone?

Alright, that's cool too.

I understand your frustration Dogpatch. As a fan I would love to see this program turn around. It just seems like the players stay in the dog house with Grier. As I look at the bench even the other coaches look lost. Which ever coach is working with the bigs isn't doing the best job. I really feel sorry for the players it has to be rough to just keep losing games and players. Even the coach from LMU feels sorry for Grier and the program.

Article from UT-San diego

The buzzer sounded and he walked down the sideline to shake hands with LMU coach Max Good, who told him: “We wanted to win the game, of course, but I truly feel bad for you.”

“I think he thought I was being condescending,” Good said afterward. “I would never, ever in this lifetime. I love the coaches in his league, but I really love Bill Grier. To me, he’s a great person.

My initial post was way too critical of Chris & Ken. To suggest they have given up on the team was over the top. My bad. I know they are working hard and want to win, as do all the coaches and players.

I will focus on the positive from here on out. I get carried away as a fan and wish I could have this one back.

Zeigler:

I know USD basketball does not move the needle much at the UT, but give us one article that asks some obvious questions about the overall health of the program. Here's some things I'd like to know:

1. Chris Gabriel was a huge part of the team - 2+ years in the program - and his release is the main reason USD is 5-10 instead of 10-5. What happened?

2. Why is there so much turnover in the program? Trumaine Johnson, Nathan Lozeau, Clinton Houston, Rob Jones, Devon Braswell, Patrick McCollum, Tevor Fuller, Chris Gabriel, Jordon Mackie, Ben Vozzola. Grier seems to get a pass because his team is so young but no one points out that Grier is the reason the team is so young.

3. With the transfer of Vozzola, USD now has 3 scholarships to give for next year (Gabriel, Mackie, Vozzola & Norris out, Guidry in). What is the plan moving forward? Who is on the radar screen? Transfers, juco, high school seniors?

4. How many years does Grier have left on his contract? Is his job in jeopardy? What does Ky Snyder think of the men's basketball program?

Not a good game for USD. Dee & Anderson continue to shine (although we are working way too hard to get Dee shots).

Our bigs have disappeared. I don't know which assistant coach works with the bigs but they are playing terribly right now.

Manresa & Rancifer look like they have given up on the team. Simi is still very raw.

Kramer is working very hard but for some reason seems to be in Grier's doghouse. Why Grier can't recognize that Kramer & Sinis are not traditional big men is beyond me. They don't like to get physical and are more perimeter oriented players. Instead of trying to force them down low, play to their strengths and put them on the wing - Rancifer is a lost cause, but Kramer and Sinis in that spot would be a tough matchup. Both are good shooters and can handle the ball. Instead, they leave Kramer out on the floor with Norris, Rancife, Dee & Anderson and then get mad at him for not rebounding every missed shot. I don't get it.

I was able to catch a good portion of the game on ESPNU last night. I have to say that I was fairly impressed with the squad. Anderson and Dee looked great. The future for our backcourt is definitely bright, and they should be one of the better duos in the conference over the next few years. Agree with Dogpatch in that the Rancifer stretch was probably the best I have ever seen him play. Hopefully that provides a big confidence boost for the remainder of the season. No idea what is up with Manresa...poor finishing around the hoop, a few turnovers, and a complete lack of defensive intensity. Also, I'm still unimpressed by Kramer and Sinis.

Overall, a good effort from the team. If they bring that type of intensity every game, there's no reason to think they can't beat any team in the conference outside of the Top-3, especially at home. LMU on Saturday will be a good test.

The Toreros battled and played pretty well but too many turnovers and absolutley nothing from the bigs doomed USD.

Christopher Anderson is going to be a good one. If he develops a jumpshot this summer he is going to be a tough match-up.

Johnny Dee is just fun to watch. He hasn't met a shot he won't take and nothing seems to shake his confidence (even an air ball or too). He can be hit and miss, but when he is on he's pretty good.

Ken Rancifer played the best 10-minute stretch of his career. Where the hell has that been all year?!

Manresa had the worst game of his career - too bad, but everyone has a stinker now and then. Had he played his normal game I think USD wins the game.

Simi, Kramer & Sinis didn't do much but foul. Not sure why Kramer didn't play in the 2nd half (injury or coaches decision?)

No rebounds down low, no points in the paint and too many turnovers.

That said, if they compete as hard as they did last night, I think they can beat LMU tomorrow.
