Chris Gabriel. Good soft hands and touch, but not well conditioned athlete. He still does not run well. I watched him for two years at JSerra Catholic HS - he gave a good effort and his size gave him a good advantage and competed well in the Trinity League, but it was really debateable as to whether he was worth the investment to get to the next level (ie, someone to build a program around). The NMSU video was good to see that he has lost some weight and the baby fat.
Hey just found an article on Trevor Fuller:
August 5, 2009
Talk about it in Hurricane Alley
As Episcopal School of Dallas' Trevor Fuller continues to show his worth on the basketball court, he admitted the extra attention from college recruiters still seems to catch him off-guard.
After a successful summer circuit with Team Texas Elite, Fuller has become one of the state's best prospects. At 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds, Fuller possesses the size to become a respectable Division I player. Scouts have taken extra notice after watching him showcase his athleticism and basketball savvy all over the nation.
"It's really different what I'm used to," Fuller said of the attention. "It all kind of caught me by surprise. I didn't especially think I played superbly, but I had a few good games, and I guess that caught the attention of a few people."
Fuller served as a prominent role player for Team Texas. When he wasn't rebounding or blocking shots, he was making baskets taking advantage of second-chance opportunities. Fuller's explosive jumping ability, along with a much-improved perimeter game, contributed to his method of mastering some of the squad's intangibles.
"I haven't played with that much talent on one team before," Fuller said. "There were a lot of egos at work at first, but we found a way to come together as a team. We won two tournaments, so it was a good summer."
Playing with Team Texas should give Fuller added confidence after a productive junior year at ESD. He averaged 17 points and 9.1 rebounds last season and helped ESD claim its second consecutive Southwest Preparatory Conference state title.
The additional tutelage he's been receiving also should come in handy. Fuller has been receiving on-court guidance from ESD coach Corey Henderson, a 6-6 multi-position player who played at Texas A&M and went on to play professionally in Australia.
"He understands the things I go through," Fuller said, "but he never makes it easy for me. If I post up on him, I never soften up because he's a strong man. That's an advantage."
Fuller has nine offers so far - Colgate, James Madison and Liberty among them - and several other schools interested in him. Two schools that have offered, San Diego and Southern Illinois, intrigue him the most, but he is wide open and does not plan on making a final decision before examining all options.
"It's all about how much interest the coaches show me," he said. "That really makes a big difference when you hear a coach say how important you are to them. You want to know they have your best interest at heart."
Godwin Okonji 6'-8" C/PF from Findlay Prep is taking an official visit to USD this weekend.
He is a 3-star prospect on Rivals, and a 2-star prospect on Scout.com.
He's taking official visits to USD, New Mexico and Hawaii.
ESPN.com gives him a grade of 91. Here's his ESPN profile:
Godwin Okonji | C
Hometown Henderson, NV
High School Findlay College Prep
Position rank Center # 14
Height 6'8"
Weight 215 lbs.
Evaluation
May, 2009: Okonji was at times a dominant force inside the lane and along the baseline during the Hawthorne (CA) Memorial Day Blast. He showed pretty good footwork down with his back to the basket, converting drop-step and step-through moves for dunks and above-the-rim layups. He didn't rebound as forcefully as he appeared capable although he soared well above traffic to snag some missed shots. He didn't get an opportunity to demonstrate much in the way of offense in the 15- to 17-foot range, either as a shooter or handler. He already has a well-defined body and has the frame to carry another 20 or so pounds of muscle without losing much in the way of quickness and fluidity.
January, 2009: Okonji is a much improved athletic power forward that is starting to develop into a force for the extremely talented Findley Prep program. The African import is an active, aggressive rebounder and shot blocker that doesn't mind doing the dirty work in the trenches to get his team the ball. Most of his offense is at point blank range, but he has a decent touch in the paint and was able to convert some tough angled shots with defenders around him. He is a good interior passer that is able to hit a cutting teammate to the basket. His body is strong and put together; he is able to bang with bigger and heavier players and win his share of the battles. As he continues to develop his skills away from the basket he will be a tough match-up for future opponents.

He looks pretty good.
Would love to see him as a Torero. Seems like a great prospect and a pipeline to Findlay Prep would be enormous. They are one of if not the top programs in the country
Also, Godwin plays on the same AAU team, Branch West, as Vozzola
That's great news that he plays with Vozzola. Hopefully they can get him wrapped up before he leaves campus.
hed be the last roster spot for 2010 if he signs
So say if he commits who is our whole recruting class for 2010?
Wow, Godwin would be a really big get....let's hope he has a good visit.
assuming godwin signs, which is a big assumption, our 2010 roster would be:
Houston- F (SR)
Dorr- F (SR)
Crescencio- F/C (SR)
Ginty- G (SR WO)
Harbour- G (SR WO)
Gabriel- C (RS JR)
Miles- G (SO)
Mackie- G (SO)
Manresa- F/C (SO)
Rancifer- F (SO)
McCollum- G (SO)
Woolpert- G (SO WO)
Vozzola- F (FR)
Fuller- F (FR)
James- G (FR)?
Okonji- C (FR)?
Scout.com reported today that Simi Fajemisin committed to USD.
Here's the profile from ESPN.com which give him a grade of 88:
Simi Fajemisin | C
Hometown Lynwood, WA
High School Lynnwood High School
Position rank Center # 39
Height 6'8"
Weight 260 lbs
Evaluation
June, 2009: Fajemisin is one of the best unknown secrets on the west coast. He needs to get in better shape to become more explosive around the paint, but with his size and soft hands, he may end up at the high-major level. He doesn't run very well in transition and he'll need to increase his endurance significantly to be affective at the next level, but the talent is there. He has a nice touch out to the elbow and his stroke is smooth. He is fairly quick off the floor and is a decent rebounder, but that aspect of his game needs to improve. His post fundamentals are a work in progress and he's very methodical (lacks quickness) while maneuvering around the paint area. The west coast class of 2010 is void of talent at the 4 and the 5. If Fajemisin commits to improving his post skills and tightening up his frame, the upside is undeniable.
July, 2008: Fajemisin has a long ways to go at both ends of the floor; however, he has a hefty frame with long arms and some soft hands as well. He doesn't have much lift, but he has pretty quick feet and gets off the floor reasonably quick for a youngster his size. His go-to move is the drop step, but his fundamentals need to be groomed because he brings the ball down far too often to gather himself for the finish. On the other hand, his effort level needs to be more consistent as well - consistently takes plays off at both ends. Fajemisin has a adequate amount of upside to play at the Division I level, but his post skills, effort level, and overall feel for the game need to improve immensely for that too happen.
NICE!
This makes me assume that James is on the out. If we could wrap up Okonji too it would give us a LOT of post options. That'd be a first
