I wonder if Simi felt the pressure with Okonji coming? Hopefully the two aren't mutually exclusive.

btw Vozzola is not a foward i saw on the roster you put that, he's a big 6'5 combo guard.

Another guy reporting a USD offer is Yannick Atanga, as PF out of Ojai by way of Cameroon. Seems that everyone in the WCC is after him with us and the Big Boys arent far behind.
Link to "Slipper Still Fits" interview with his coach,
http://www.slipperstillfits.com/2009/9/18/1037108/what-will-2010-recruiting-bringWould love to see either Atanga or Okonji finish this class. We have the young guards to play the wing along with the addition of Vozzola who seems like the perfect 3rd guard to take the place of DJ. Simi, Gabriel and Fuller all seem like bruisers so I would love to see Billy bring in another big who is a little more of a leaper/ shot blocker to complement them. A player in the mold of Kevin Young that LMU got last year.

Does not mention USD in this article, but the warm weather part works for us. Hopefully we know where we are after he visits Hawaii.
From the article...
Okonji enjoyed his recent visit to New Mexico, where former Findlay small forward Curtis Dennis will be eligible this season, and he will check out Hawaii in two weeks.
He has set no other official visits.
That is curious, since Utah coach Jim Boylen was such a regular at Findlay practices last season. Privately, he raved about Okonji’s potential.
However, Okonji said he was upset that he has not heard from Boylen or other Utah officials in a while.
Okonji has been clear about his intentions to play in warm weather, yet the low in Albuquerque, N.M., often hits freezing temperatures during basketball season.
“He doesn’t want to go where there’s winters or cold weather,” Peck said. “He doesn’t do well there. I think I conveyed that to coach Boylen and his staff. I think they felt that was a barrier.”
Okonji, a power forward from Lagos, Nigeria, might not want to leave Honolulu when he visits the Warriors program.
“If we were to call (Utah coaches) and say that’s not the case now, they’d jump in with both hands and feet, and be excited about it,” Peck said.
“We’ll have to see where his mindset is at after these two trips, if any of them just knocked him out and he wants to do something early. If not, then maybe you go through the process during the year.”
Peck said it will be a win-win situation for Okonji.
“Maybe you wait until the late period to sign and commit,” Peck said. “Now, when that word gets out there, I’m telling you there will be a whole new flurry of schools wanting to get involved.
“So he’s in a good position. We’ve conveyed that to him, we just have to see after this Hawaii visit.”

Check it out…our own Cindy Fisher would like you and your friends to be “drafted” as supporters and fans of USD women’s hoops!

usdatheltics...I would suggest starting a new thread to garner attention

This is why no one likes women's basketball, they get obnoxious asking for attention. One thread and one single post would've been sufficient, thanks.

I really hope that whoever that is is not really associated with the usd athletic department. tho after last years commercial advertising that USD had beaten "UCONN, Gonzaga and the Huskies", it wouldnt really surprise me if they were

Don't forget the Athletic Department's advertisment selling discounted basketball tickets to the Boise St. fans who were in town for the Holiday Bowl last year.

I share gotereros08's concern about the post by usdathletics.
Just noticed that usdathletics entered the same message in the comments section under an AP article on the San Diego Union Tribune website about former SDSU pitcher Stephen Strasburg:
usdathletics - If you are employed by the USD athletics department, please exercise better judgment.

I haven't look at the USD Website, but other WCC programs are advertising this there. I hope usdathletics is not shucking their responsibilities and not adding it where it belongs?

I've seen a couple of articles that state Godwin Okonji is down to Hawaii & New Mexico...see link:
However, New Mexico just inked a really good big man last week (Alex Kirk), so hopefully that bodes well for us.

SAN DIEGO'S GRIER OPTIMISTIC; NORTH FLORIDA'S NEW COACH HITS BEACH
Friday, October 9, 2009, 01:54 PM EST [General]Bill Grier was concerned about it and warned his players, but they still fell into the trap.
After winning a first-round NCAA tournament game in his first season as the head coach at San Diego, Grier knew the expectations would be high last season – especially because the Toreros brought nearly everyone back.
But Grier had gone through it as an ****istant for years at Gonzaga – and he realized how hard it was to maintain.
San Diego went 16-16 last season.
My greatest fear was how we would handle the expectations,” Grier said.Guys really struggled with dealing with it – and how to approach it.”The perception was that we had the whole group back and we were going to just fly in there and get back to the tournament,” he added. It didn’t help that the five players on the court in San Diego’s first-round upset against UConn in 2008 never spent one single minute together last year due to injuries and suspensions.
Brandon Johnson went down with a season-ending Achilles tendon tear in the eighth game of the season just about the same time Trumaine Johnson was reinstated from a suspension imposed prior to the start of the season. Star big man Gyno Pomare and reserve Clinton Houston were also suspended early in the season.
Three of the team’s top four scorers from a year ago are gone, but Grier is excited about the return of his starting backcourt – Johnson and fellow senior De’Jon Jackson – in addition to plenty of new faces.
Johnson, who led San Diego in scoring (16.9), ****ists (3.5) and minutes (35.1) two years ago, is still working himself back from a setback in the summer in which doctors went back in and cleaned up his ankle.
It affected him mentally,” Grier said.So he’s a little bit behind. He’s not 100 percent, but he’s getting there.”Jackson is the guy who made the biggest basket in school history when he sank a game-winning shot with 1.2 seconds left in overtime against UConn. He averaged 8.9 points and has slimmed down in the offseason.
Grier will have Brazilian Robert Mafra and skilled 6-foot-8 freshman Chris Manresa competing for minutes to replace Pomare in the middle.
