Yes this is going to be a lot different then the last game USF played against us at War Memorial. I remember watching that game and thinking, I have never seen a team shoot as well as USF did that night. They do have the best player in the WCC right now in Dior Lowhorn. The guy is very good when he wants to be and he doesn't get enough press because his supporting cast sucks. I would put Lowhorn right up there with Samahan, Harris, and Bouldin...all of which I feel are very underrated as well.
Anyways we need to come out strong and get these two must win games in USF and Santa Clara. Not to worried about SCU, but USF always scares me because of Lowhorn.

we have half the conference schedule left to pull the rabbit all the way outta the hat. with the three freshman (manresa, rancifer, miles) now getting important minutes, it's all about chemistry, confidence, and unselfishness. if miles can start penetrating consistently like a real point guard, that opens up EVERYthing, much the way Trumaine's blossoming did two years ago. It truly frees up BJ to be a pure scorer on the offensive end, it takes a lot of point guard pressure off DJ, and lets Manresa post up much more freely, since the defense can't collapse as much as they can in the absense of a true PG. Rancifer is a pure athlete who can hit the glass way above the rim, Lewis can really go low or hi, freed up more, and even Mafra, who has disappeared, can just be a big body inside to play d and get boards when he plays, doesn't have to be a real post up threat inside, since he's shown that's not his strength. Just IMO, of course, but at least the USF game is one to look forward to, coming off their win, and coming off our little, hopefully continuing, rebirth.
Let's get it on.

And Dorr, can't forget Dorr, now hopefully his aversion to driving to the hoop won't matter as much. He can just play his solid D and focus on hitting every three he gets.

7 point favorites against the Dons....Vegas must have been impressed with our win at Pepperdine and appear to expect a letdown game from USF.

maybe the golf guy can hit a few golf balls at USF F Dior Lowhorn and help us out.....

That's classic, gousd. The golf guy is the goofiest half-time show I've ever seen.

This game tonight is probably one of the most important of the season. I still think with a win tonight, this team could get a bye in the 1st round of the WCC Tournament. 4th place is up for grabs in the conference, and I think it's anyones spot. Fortunately for us, while USF has to go on the road 5 of the next 7, we only have homecourt 5 of the next 7. It is vital for us to sweep USF and SCU, because after them we play the three-headed monster on the road for 2 and at home for 1. \
I say best case scenario the team goes 5-2, with one upset win over either Portland or St. Mary's. That LMU home game could also have a lot on the line for both teams in terms of WCC Tournament standings as well.

We definitely have a shot at that first round bye....tonight's game will be a good indication of whether we have started to right the ship toward that goal or not. Let's hope that we see a much better defensive effort than the last time we played at USF.

the freshman are the key to every game left, now that they've been given more playing time and responsibility. Manresa is our only real post-up threat down low right now, the other forwards are compliments who need to crash the boards (Lewis is a tweener, just needs to keep playing hard and doing the little things). I hope to see Rancifer above the rim a lot tonight, as well as Miles penetrating. If these three can make consistent, solid contributions, the upperclassmen are freed up to a greater degree than they have been all year. Confidence, confidence, confidence. We shall see if the pieces can keep fitting together, if a working rotation can be found, or if it will all revert to earlier, and poorer, form. I'm mildly optimistic.
See y'all tonight.

Not sure if I'm going tonight in person or watching it on TV, but either way it should be a close one. I think USD has a surprising 2nd half similar to the Pepperdine game and pulls it out in the end.

The attendance isn't that bad for a weeknight game vs. USF. Hot shooting early and some quick hands on D. The squad looks good.

Agreed ereiz. Toreros are looking good tonight early with the 3-ball and impressive defense to start off the game.

reboundings getting a lot better in this game... lets keep it up and not get too sloppy on defense.
