blue usd fan: good point. after the last two seasons, his stock is pretty low. there will not be an offer like he had from osu at this point...
and if you are osu, you are 4-6 in conf right now and dang near a .500 club...i bet they think the grass is greener on their side at this point! they might feel like they dodged a bullet...

Like everyone else, I watched this pathetic effort with frustration. I have always backed Grier but I have had my doubts how he connects with players. A lot of coaches have this same problems and assistant coaches play the good cop/bad cop with the head coach. Mike Burns is the guy who I see interacting the most with the players, but I have also seen BJ yell back at him during games. I think this season has to be a wake up call for Grier to evolve as a coach. Their is no way that anything happens after this year, if next year is another disappointment we can all hope Eric Musselman is still available.

Musselman would be a wise choice. And sorry if I've said anything to offend anyone, I am just extremely frustrated this season, because I saw potential in the Alaska Tournament. After beating Oklahoma and Houston, things took a complete 180.
At this point I am just hoping we are able to land that kid from Findlay Prep Okonji, with Vander Joaquim seeming destined to head to U of A and Sean Miller. But hey maybe Joaquim comes here instead. I'm just thinking a guy like Okonji is just light years ahead of everyone else on this team, when it comes to defense. Guy would do a lot better job on Samahan then Mafra probably does.

If I was a betting man I would bet strongly that Ky isn't making a move anytime soon. If anything, I would bet that Ky actually extends Grier's contract.

While the last couple years have been disappointing... as an athletic director you NEVER ever ever ever ever evvvvvvvvvver want to admit you made a mistake. Clearly Bill has shown flashes of being a solid coach. He DOES do things that are good. Let's be real here guys... this is USD, this isn't Arizona. You're not going to get the perfect coach to walk in the door that can recruit, fundraise, speak well, coach, relate to players, be media savvy... etc. THOSE coaches are already employeed and are pulling in over a mill a year. What you're hopeful is that you have a coach who does a bunch of those things well and then figures the rest out without killing anybody. Seriously... I'm not a Grier backer. It's well documented. But this is also the guy's first go around as being a head coach.
And you know why he could get an extension? Recruits want to know a coach is safe. The best recruits are going somewhere that they THINK they can succeed... and in THEORY part of that is that the coach will be there for the duration of their playing career. Plus, I'd bet that Bill is willing to listen to getting a year tacted onto his deal and using a reasonable dollar figure too.
I'm just stating the facts... as someone who has been around the industry for a minute... Bill's not getting bought out next year... even if he goes 4-27. Seriously. He brought in a nice recruiting class... he can lean on the fact that he wants "his" kids to develop. You all have agreed on this board that this is the best incoming class at USD. Ever. He's going to get at least a couple years to show that he can work with these guys.

Bring the love, baby. I haven't aimed a single insult at anyone on this board, I save it all for the head coach, who seems the one more concerned with his own thing than the team. If you can't see a team whose head coach seems to suck the life out of them, then we disagree. These particular kids, and this particular coach, are not a good mix. Have a nice day, sweetheart.

Glad to see everyone is friends again.
I think Grier has 2 years to make drastic improvements, however, I don't think anyone expects miracles next year. the 2011-12 season is the key - we should have a really good team - if he can't deliver at that point then they'll have to seriously consider making a change.
Tipping points along the way could be more player suspensions or another 1-2 players leaving the team due to differences with the coaching staff.
Hopefully Grier will continue to grow as a coach and get better at the things he is not good at.
I'm looking for an improved effort on Thursday night, BJ to get the scoring record and no more ill-advised Grier quotes in the paper.

Wooderson I like that points you make. Transferguy do you have any insight into the players attitudes? You seem to have some connections. Is playing walk-ons ahead of some talented young guys that are the future of the program going to cause a problem down the road? I am not here to rip college kids but as has been stated Ginty and Harbour are not the type of athletes needed to develop a winning programl. Talent is needed and last Saturday is was plainly obvious we were lacking talent on the floor. It is my humble opinion that Manresa, Miles, and Rancifer need to play as many minutes as possible together the rest of the way to see how their games translate into next season. Blue I think you put too much emphasis on guys that are not here. it's nice to hope but let's deal with the here and now. The freshman group we have is talented and needs some confidence to develop. Next year's class will not carry this team. It will be up to Manresa, Gabriel, Ranficer, Miles, and Dorr with hopefully Mackie Vozzola Fuller contributing. This is a far more athletic team than we have now albeit short on experience. I don't think anyone wants to see what transpired on the floor last Saturday anymore. Everyone needs to get on the same page to move forward and I hope it starts on Thursday...
