Meanwhile Rancifer plays 8 min?
I'm sorry, but I am really starting to get fed up with seeing Ginty out there so much. I know Ginty is a good guy, but this is DI NCAA Basketball and every time he is on the court it seems like it hurts us a lot. Does anyone else think that he brings zero to this team, at this point? Same goes for Harbour. Nice kid, but not DI material. I would rather see Rancifer, Miles, and McCollum get those minutes since they actually are athletic and talented.
I agree play the young guys and hope they can develop so that next year they are somewhat ready to step up and fill the voids.

I also agree that you need to get Rancifer and Miles in the mix more... But, I have heard that McCollum has an attitude that makes Rob Jones look like a saint and has been a problem in the locker room. He also is turning the ball over at an alarming rate.
I know for a fact that Grier doesnt want to be in the situation where he is playing walk ons. No D1 coach wants to be in this situation. I agree that Miles and Rancifer need to get in there and learn the game... But only if they earn it, otherwise Grier will lose the locker room more than he already has. Harbour and Ginty have definetly earned it and grier obviously knows whats he is going to get from them (even if its not much).
I really think Rancifer will turn into an impact player if he buys in and that miles has potential to be an all league player by the end of his career, but they need to earn it if they want to truley become the players we all want them to be.
...And if you think we have played slow the last couple of years, next year with our questionable guard play, The big boy from new mexico ( I have heard better than Gyno rumors), the other 3 new bigs, and Manressa, expect a sloooow offense that is all around throwing the ball into the post, cutting off it and having dorr and vozzola looking for open threes... (and maybe Ginty and Harbour ;) )

McCollum may not be here much longer. He will probably transfer in the offseason I have heard. Pretty much he thinks that he is hot stuff because the university recruited him for two years because he was too stupid to qualify the first year. He really is terrible.

If what transferguy says is true (and he usually provide solid info) then I vote we try to find a solid JC point guard with McCollum's scholarship, who can come in and lead the team for a couple of years.
I thought McCollum was going to have an impact for us this year, but he is obviously not coming along like we hoped. I had high hopes after that exhibition game when he put on a passing clinic.

Thanks for the insight about my boy McCollum. Honestly its not a big surprise to me though, especially after Griers' falling out with Trumaine. All this does is further my perception that in fact it is Grier's fault, because he's the one recruiting these kids isn't he? Isn't Grier the one going to mom and dad's house to see how the player reacts to questions?
Transferguy you say McCollum thinks he is hot stuff? I don't see anything wrong with that attitude. The guy was on a better team than this year in high school, and had a better big man playing with him (Jeremy Tyler) than USD has ever had in their history! I'm not saying it's right McCollum thinks this way, but I kind of like the swagger both he and Trumaine both used to show. The difference is Grier gave TJ a chance at the beginning of WCC play, while McCollum's minutes went to Miles. There is no doubt in my mind, that we will be hearing about both these guys over the next 2 years on ESPN and will be kicking ourselves that Grier wasn't able to control these teenagers.
As for JC options good luck. There is one guy named Stevie Rogers who is on our radar and that is about it. I would like to see us get in on Kendall Williams from Los Osos High and see if we can maybe be a darkhorse by offering him more minutes. He has good PG size and apparently has a very advanced game. Another option is Jon Loyd from Las Vegas, Nevada. He has probably played with Vozzola before and he only has scholarship offers from NAU, Weber St. and SMU. Also I know we recruit a lot for baseball from Bishop Gorman, so I would not be surprised to see our names pop up in his recruiting, if McCollum is in fact gone.

Isn't TJ a PG and Dellavadova a SG, so how does that work. Forget TJ, he isn't here anymore. I want to know how true it is about McCollum leaving, this is not good and doesn't bode well on program development. What is going on, should we send Transferguy in to do a team intervention.

I actually believe that both Tj and Rob will have a huge impact at Saint Marry's. I am sure they both have matured a lot and to be honest i wouldn't be surprised if they were both NBA prospect's by the time they are done over there. It was clear how much they impacted USD on the court as freshman... they are going to be scary as 5th year seniors. I think we will see a lot of them on ESPN...
As for McCollum, I have not been impressed at all. Even with his attitude problems, if he could play, he would be out there. Trumaine got minutes because he was very good and played to win. McCollum is a turn over waiting to happen and looks as if he playing for himself out there.
It would be sad if McCollum did leave though, Grier is obviously having trouble in getting his players to buy in and play hard for him and the program, let alone stay four years at an amazing university.
Does USD now have another Spot for a guard now that Clinton is gone? They a true pg...bad. Hopefully Miles can fill those shoes.

You know who McCollum reminds me of. He reminds me of SDSU's D.J. Gay a lot. While I dislike SDSU, they seem to be going in one direction with their squad (signing the California High School POY last year), while USD continues to play guys like Harbour and Ginty.
As for Trumaine, I know he is going to St. Mary's. Heck on facebook there is a picture of him and Rob Jones decked out in St. Mary's gear hanging out at St. Mary's gym. Now I know Rob got exempt from the 2 year-transfer within conference, but I am not so sure about Trumaine. No matter what if both are eligible next year we are in trouble. You know they already know Grier's system, and you add Delladova to that mix and we are in a lot of trouble.
I swear some of you don't realize that Trumaine is 20 and McCollum is 19. They are kids, they are going to mature you just have to be patient with them. Thats 2 players that have left our program already in Grier's tenure.
Anyways the future does look a bit better. I think Vozzola is just going to roll next year, and could def. contend for Freshman of the Year in the WCC. I think Grier's future relies a lot on the development of Manresa, Rancifer, and Vozzola.

On March 21, 2008, the Toreros were one of the surprises of the NCAA Tournament after knocking off mighty Connecticut in the first round. They entered the 2008-09 season with one of the hotter young coaches in the game in former Gonzaga assistant Bill Grier and truly felt they could contend with the Zags and Saint Mary’s for the WCC title. Instead, a bevy of suspensions and dismissals just prior to the season kicked the year off on the wrong note and the Toreros truly haven’t recovered since. 2008-09 finished at 16-16 overall and a loss to Santa Clara in the WCC quarterfinals resulting in no postseason. A year later, San Diego is sitting in the cellar of the conference and have lost an embarrassing seven of eight in WCC play, most recently with consecutive home defeats at the hands of bottom-feeders San Francisco and Santa Clara. With the Toreros sitting at 9-16 (2-7) and only able to muster 63 PPG on average, Grier could find himself on the hot seat sooner than later with this two-year tailspin in full throttle."

Yah that is a good perspective of how far we have fallen. Didn't we run off a really long WCC win streak as well before the WCC Tournament that year? I'm pretty sure the only games we lost were both regular season Gonzaga's and @ St. Mary's. Granted when you have people who transfer, who were such an important part of the team, there are going to be growing pains.
Here's looking to a hopefully improved 2010-2011 team with Vozzola playing the role of Washington St.'s Klay Thompson.

dogpatch: good find. that pretty much sums it up for us.
blue: you are correct. we had a really hot streak. as for the transfers, it will be interesting to see rob and trumaine. sitting for a year in any sport is hard to come back from right away. practice and games are two totally different things. if rob is a true player, he will come back strong and mature. if he is a head case; maybe not. i think mentally trumaine will be better off after sitting out than rob will be. i like trumaine more as a player who gave us more of an edge.

The 2010-2011 season should be a very exciting season and I can't wait! We should be much better, and I think the team will vibe better. And nice hype for Vozzola, but I don't think him & Klay play alike. Klay comes off screens, and is more of a catch and shoot player. Where I think Vozzola is more creating his own shot and drawing defenses and creating for teamates. Klay is a great player and is a def NBA player next year. 1st round easy.
