are you guys implying bj lost the game for us?
the easy way out is to blame bj-i understand that-but dont forget we had 17 turnovers as a team.

wooderson: what r ur thoughts on coaching staff changes possibly coming up? think there will be any? aside from grier - dont wanna get into that right now!!
I have no idea whether grier is going to remake his staff of assistants. This is his team. If he wants to shake the suits up on the bench, well, I guess he can. I will say Mafra has failed to develop at all in his two seasons. If there's a big man coach among the assistants, then I'd worry about that. It's just been a very odd three seasons. from the ncaa run to wcc doormat is stunning, really, when you think about it. between the transfers out, the thin roster that hasn't thickened nearly enough, and the tepid personal vibe between head coach and players that I've watched every game for three seasons, well, it's just a worrisome combination. But hey, I've been wrong before. Maybe we'll be the young, brash, team on the upswing next season. I hear we have the best class in the conference coming in next year. Okay, I'm waiting. We all are. Let's have some fun playing basketball again. Remember that?
I'm pretty sure Mike Burns (Baldy) is the one in charge of the big men, but remember Mafra was Roese's guy before he jumped ship to Nebraska, which at the time sounded like a mistake, but now sounds like he made the right decision.
As for the LMU game, all I can say is I told you so. I said from Day 1 against Stanford that LMU was a scary team in the WCC. Drew Viney was a four-star prospect and got a ride to Oregon when they were top 25 for a reason. You hear me say NBA all the time on here, that kid is it. He is very good and will develop into a Doug Christie type player in the NBA. Anybody wanna take that bet?
And USD, well it really has fallen Wooderson. We went from beating Stanford, Oklahoma, and Houston which were all top 100 teams in the country at the time, to losing the WCC to the likes of USF, SCU, LMU, and Portland.
BJ did not finish the game like a 5th year senior and team leader should have...that is what I am saying......he didn't lose it alone but he certainly did nothing to help win it either....
BJ was 1-6 from the field, 4 points and 5 turnovers in 25 minutes....I'm not sure what game anyone else was watching....Ginty played 12 minutes and had 8 points so probably not a great idea to rail about Ginty being the issue last night.
This season just needs to end.....
For his size, Viney needs to be more of a ball handler to make it in the NBA. The shots he took against USD would get swatted back in his face in the big show. He'd be a 2 in the NBA, Christie was bigger and ran the court more than Viney seems to. And I didn't see him challenged on D much (but since when do we challenge ANYone on D). But the kid can shoot, don't think he even touched the rim last night, nothing but string music. Didn't even seem like he was looking at the bucket on half of his makes.
I'll step up and defend BJ. It is hard to blame a guy for being down when he is obviously the best player on the team, but the coach treats him like a freshman. He was not in the starting line-up...again. Granted I don't know all of the behinds-the-scenes information - maybe BJ's attitude isn't great, who knows. The fact of the matter is he is our best player and gives us the best chance to win. I cannot blame BJ if his attitude is a little raw right now - he's had no help this year, had the home game where he could have broken the scoring record but Grier sat him on the bench and his coach has called him out in the newspaper more than once.
I didn't see the game last night, but looking at the box score this morning a few things stood out. We must have played okay - we scored 69 points (one of our highest scoring games this year) but had 17 turnovers...it sounds like we gave it away. We were beaten on the boards once again. And what is up with McCollum? He hoisted up 18 shots in 24 minutes! He went 5-18 (28%), 0-6 on 3-pointers and had 3 turnovers...what the hell is that? At some point don't you realize it's not your night and pass the ball?
gousd: it isnt about "railing" on a certain player every time we lose a game. we can say that about any team that loses any game in any team sport. what a vicious cycle that would be.
look the bottom line is grier doesnt want bj/dj/lewis around anymore. he makes it so obvious. if you were bj and you worked your tail off for this coach the way you have, wouldnt you want just a little bit of trust and respect?? he gets none of that. instead, grier all but blames losses on him on the radio and on tv.
this team didnt fall apart because bj. it all starts from the top.
grier et al should be cooking bj dinner every night for all the success he brought their way.......which in turn allowed them to negotiate their fat contracts and extensions. the guy has put it all on the line a million times over for this school and im sick and tired of people pointing the finger at him. the staff lies about bj have made their way around campus-it makes them look like d-bags.
for those of you who cant wait for him to be gone, you dont have to wait much longer. for those of you who enjoyed watching his basketball heroics like i did, it will be sad to see this era come to an end. wish i could make it to see his last games in vegas.
saturday is a must win.
I love how everyone has made BJ a saint and Grier the devil....most people here have no clue what is going on behind the scenes - transferguy has extremely factual knowledge of whats going on....but everyone can hang on to what they want to believe...it's a free country! :-)
btw the way BJ has gotten close to $225,000-$250,000 from USD so I wouldn't feel too bad for him.....assuming a full scholarship (tuition, housing, food, books, etc) is close to $45-50k a year for 5 years he has done quite well! It's not like he got nothing out of the deal....he hopefully will have gotten a great degree!
